When is this finally a game and not a flight model demo?

The last update 0.0.5a is 12 days old, thats nearly two weeks.

Progress was slow in this time and there where no new update. The reson for that is that my family requires more attention and I feel often tired in the evening which forces me to do stuff to chill out, instead of working on the game.

Still there was some progress, which is was not worth to publish as an game update. I did implement the first enemy into the game. They are called Dart and they do try to collide with you. Doing so will deal some damage, to prevent that you need to shot them. Since there is no spawn system im place right now I did not add them to the demo scene, so they are not visible in the game itself.

I also added a proper pause menu, this menu will give access to the help menu in further version. It will also pause the game … finally, i guess. This is in preperation for the next steps.

The focus for now will be implementen “experience” for the player, in the first implementation this is only some kind of highscore value without any levels/upgrades gain. I will extend on this later on. This does reqiured to add some game state for a round to the game to store such information, which is the first step to a persistant savegame I guess.

The next step, after the experience was implemented is reworking the game scene so that it will start spawning the dart enemies until you die. After that step I will need so start working on the upgrade ui for your ship, to get a kind of complete gameloop up and running.

Things I also got on my mind but I pushed back since there is more important stuff

  • Improve the tutorial
  • Add a main menu
  • Add a profile manager (So you can have multiple game profiles at once)
  • Rework the background to be less disturbing, I do think about a static cloud background, but with different colors and clouds. It should move really slow if you fly a large distance.
